There are nights that are so dark and so cold that they no longer frighten, but begin to carry light. This figure belongs to such a night. It seems to have emerged from the stillness of a frozen lake, from that naked and trembling moment in which one looks upward into the clear sky and suddenly feels that the world is far larger, softer, stranger, and more tender than the mind had allowed.

This statue reminds us of the unbearable clarity of looking upward too long, until the sky is no longer sky but a creature, and the creature is made of polar light, and the polar light knows sorrow better than we do.

It carries hearts. Not one heart, all of them. The tired ones, the overfilled ones, the ones that thought they had already gone dim. And then suddenly amber, suddenly breath, suddenly return. As if the last flicker had only been waiting to become a beginning. As if the soul had been speaking all along in a language too soft for the mind.

This figure knows that place. The place where the mind grows too full and full and full, and then suddenly amber begins to flow again, and you are here. Back on this planet. Back in your body, though not entirely. Because some nights return you to the strange knowledge that you were never only flesh. That there is something more tender moving through us. Something unseen. Something kind.

So we made the dragon. Or maybe it made itself out of all that light. Out of pain endured long enough to become luminous. Out of all our hearts. Out of the last flicker before giving up, which is sometimes not an ending at all, but the beginning of a beautiful and impossible friendship between the soul and the universe it belongs to.

A wonder of polar night. A blue cold light. A creature carrying us at 3 a.m. through all the dimensions still full of love. And maybe that is what this work wanted to remember, that the world did not stop being magical; it only forgot. That you are still that. That you were the wonder all along.

don't ever stop to believe in the magic that you are
