Efflorescent Freedom [floreszendierender Freisinn]

There are moments when freedom does not announce itself with force, but with an unravelling—an unfolding of form, an articulation of what was once bound. Floreszendierender Freisinn is such a moment captured in sculpture: a body neither rigid nor still, but caught in the delicate motion of self-definition. Green and gold shimmer across the surface like something organic yet alchemical, as though the figure is both rooted and transformed by the very act of reaching beyond itself.

The asymmetry of the antlers speaks of the contradictions inherent in liberation. One hangs low, heavy with memory, the weight of history bending it toward the earth. The other loops skyward, a gesture of defiance, of surrender to possibility. And the head, tilted unnaturally back, gazes straight into the unknown—past the limits of sight, past the limits of what the body was once told it could be.

Is freedom a gift or a burden? To look up is to court vertigo, to risk tumbling beyond what was once known. But to remain earthbound is to deny the impulse that lives in the marrow—to seek, to stretch, to transgress.

The dream strains against its own edges, threatening to spill into waking.

The grey soapstone base serves as the usual anchor, as the unconscious always does—solid, silent, containing depths unspoken. But above it, the body is in flux, an ouroboros of transformation. Jung spoke of individuation as a return to wholeness, a confrontation with shadow and light alike. And so, this form resists simplicity. It does not declare victory, nor does it kneel in surrender. Instead, it stands in the space between, in the tension of becoming—where freedom is neither arrival nor departure, but the moment of daring to exist fully, unbound.
