Sprout [Spross]

There is nothing weaker than a seed, and nothing stronger. A husk so slight it could be crushed between careless fingers, yet within it, the force that splits stone and reaches for the sun. Spross is the moment before certainty, the breath before growth. The sculpture embodies the quiet audacity of becoming—root pushing downward, stem rising toward an unseen sky. It is a meditation on beginnings, on the fragile power of things that have yet to prove themselves.

Does the seed know what it will become? Or does it break itself open in blind faith, surrendering to something greater than knowledge—an instinct as old as time? The glaze, veined with gold, suggests a form caught between dissolution and emergence. To grow is to fracture, to surrender the shell that once protected you. The ribbons unfurl like roots seeking nourishment, like thoughts threading through the fertile ground. And at the centre, a single golden tendril—delicate yet unyielding—marks the certainty that even the smallest life carries the weight of potential.

A sprout does not hesitate. It does not ask if it will succeed. It only grows. And perhaps that is the lesson... that in every fragile beginning, there is an unstoppable force waiting to emerge.
